Five Ways To Make Your Neutral Outfit More Interesting
If you were to take a peek into my closet, there are a few things you would see. A lot of grey, white and black, very little colour and only a handful of prints (most likely stripes). I am a creature of habit, and I know what I like.. neutral.
I will say that it makes pairing items together very easy, as there are endless combinations when it comes to neutrals. That being said, it’s also easy to feel like your look may be lacking some excitement. The day after day of different versions of the same thing can be boring and leave you feeling lost sartorially. You may be asking yourself, “how can I make this more interesting??”. Well, here’s a few tips…
How do you create a killer street style outfit when you rarely wear patterns or colour?! My tips are as follows..
- Incorporate texture. If at least one item has a bit more texture, it helps create a diversified look. I love this simple white knit sweater as it has that waffle knit material, and it also has slits on the sleeves to add extra detail.
- Add some layers. This helps when you mix and match neutrals as you can play with several materials in one outfit. It gives you that depth, and more of an intriguing look.
- Add pattern with your accessories – I am a bit of a commitment-phobe when it comes to any pattern outside of a stripe, so I find it much easier to play around through accessorizing. These tortoise shell glasses instantly add a glam feel, plus a pop of pattern. If you like to wear scarves, this is another easy way of adding both texture and pattern to your outfit.
- Have fun with shoes. Don’t be afraid to go bold! This doesn’t mean you have to wear brightly coloured shoes for them to stand out. Look for pairs with interesting details to add a playful (and more fashionable) touch. I personally LOVE metallics as it makes even the most simplest of outfits more interesting!
- Load on the jewelry. Even if you are someone who prefers fine jewelry, layer up. Whether it be multi necklaces, rings or bracelets, add more than usual. Find pieces that compliment one another! You will feel more put together, and you can wear them in your everyday look, not just for special occasions! I personally wear multiple rings everyday 😉
