Throw on a dress, sandals and sunglasses and call that your outfit of the day. No layers or makeup necessary. Office wear is a different story, and in fact, summer is probably the most challenging season to dress for. I constantly have both clients and readers asking me for tips on how to dress for their 9-5 in the heat. So, here are a few tips to freshen up your summer look; to make you feel polished, put together and professional. If you prefer to wear pants, try a cropped pant or culotte. These styles won’t feel as heavy in the warm weather. I personally love the professional look with culottes as it adds a fashionable element, and it’s something that stands out from the typical office wear. Wear tops that are lightweight, made from breathable fabrics. Depending on your office dress code, opt for sleeveless or short sleeves if you can. There is nothing worse than overheating and having materials stick to your skin! (and then in turn, sweating through them!). Blouses are a great option as the material is thinner. Test out a wrap style blouse like this one by In Wear. Tops with interesting ties/details is a huge trend this season, and will be continue to be for fall/winter as well! Always bring a layer. Workplaces tend to blast the A/C during summer months to keep everyone cool. The problem with that is that most women feel the cold very easily, and are often freezing at their desk! I have definitely experienced this first hand before. Opt for a blazer in a lighter colour, such as white, beige or blush, to keep your look bright and fresh. If you don’t like too much structure, wear a lightweight cardigan instead. I love the fit of this white blazer by Canadian designer, Iris Setlawke. The shape flows nicely, and the collarless style actually offers more pairing options! Incorporate colours and/or patterns. Bring some excitement into your look with either a pop of colour, or a fun pattern to liven it up! As someone who rarely wears colour, I typically opt for a pattern, even if it’s minimal. It will still create contrast in your outfit. Stripes are a great way to introduce pattern, especially if you are someone who typically wears solids. Thinner stripes are better as they stand out without being too bold! This sleeveless blouse offers two trends; vertical stripes and a wrap detail. Pair it with pants or a skirt! Lastly, choose a fun shoe to complete your look. Mules are everywhere these days, and for good reason. They are comfortable to wear, easy to slip on and off, and can be dressed up or down. They are a great option for office shoes as you can still have a closed toe. Some workplaces have a strict no open-toe shoe policy, so this is a great alternative! If you are allowed to wear sandals, well then, your options are endless! Have fun and go for something that is comfortable, yet stylish. This will help bring your look together and polish it off nicely. People always notice a great pair of shoes 😉 Still have questions about how to dress for the office??
