Categories all A Staycation Getaway with The Burrard Hotel November 15, 2017Author Samantha Dempster1 Comment on A Staycation Getaway with The Burrard Hotel Whether it is for a quick weekend getaway, a place to rest your head after a night downtown, or an excuse to spend quality time with your girlfriends, there is something so special about being a tourist in your own city for a night (or two!). It gives you a chance to see the city in a different perspective; take in the beauty without being in a rush. The bonus is when you can find a place to do so that doesn’t break the bank 😉 A couple of weeks ago, my good friend Jessica of North Shore Mama and I had the chance to stay at The Burrard Hotel in Vancouver. If you follow either of us on Instagram (@thefamjewels + @nshoremama) and happened to catch our stories, you would have seen how excited we both were to take a break from home life, and enjoy a kid-free escape for a night. We were like two giddy kids, so over the moon to be out of the house, and on an adventure. We also happened to be matching for most of it (some intentional, some not ;-)). The Burrard (formerly the Burrard Motor Hotel) has been in business for over sixty years. After receiving a major upgrade a few years ago, it was transformed into the now eco-friendly yet very affordable boutique hotel known as the Burrard, filled with character, and a unique sense of design. Whether you are a local, or want to live like one while visiting the city, this hotel inspires you to explore the Vancouver life. Here are a few amenities that guests of The Burrard receive… Dog-friendly rooms Courtyard oasis for outdoor relaxing (or ping pong!) Free Brodie cruiser bike rentals to tour around the city Business center for working Steve Nash gym passes (babes supporting babes t-shirts – Brunette The Label) Upon our arrival, Jessica and I were greeted by friendly staff in a fun, bright and energetic atmosphere. The modern finishings and cool artwork create a lively and inviting space; one that Jess and I were so excited to step into for a night away! We took our time settling in to our rooms, while enjoying some Sugarfina candy, and reviewing their inner city guide that can be found in every room! The beauty of this location is that you are in the heart of downtown. Just steps away from a variety of restaurants, retail stores and entertainment! The rooms wrap around a gorgeous courtyard filled with palm trees, a fireplace and a seating area (the perfect outdoor space to relax and entertain). Just what two moms on a staycation are looking for! Jess and I used this opportunity to enjoy a very well deserved restful night of sleep, and were placed in rooms side by side with Queen beds. After a blissful night of zzzz’s in a VERY comfortable bed, we were still able to hang out together in pj’s and get to do something that rarely happens in our daily life… just sit and talk (and drink hot coffee!). As we sipped on our nespresso (there is one in every room), we enjoyed having our break from the daily chaos of mom life, and took the opportunity to ease into the day. (matching pj sets – Chelsea 28, Nordstrom) And what better way than to wear matching pj’s, drink coffee and eat cookies in bed??!! 😉 Each beautifully designed room comes fully equipped with the following… Air conditioning Free high-speed WIFI Free calling anywhere in North America 42″ HDTV Free bottled water iphone/ipod docking station Once we finally put ourselves together for the day, we headed downstairs for another cup of joe at Elysian coffee, which is conveniently located in the base of the hotel. Elysian offers premium, small batch coffee along with an assortment of pastries, juice from the juice truck, and a breakfast menu including my favourite, avocado on toast. (Jess: top & pants, Sam: top, pants, shoes – provided by The Latest Scoop) Since we had nothing but time on our hands (such a rare feeling), we continued indulging and went next door to Burgoo Bistro, which is also at the base of the hotel. At Burgoo you can find a menu filled with warm comfort food options, great cocktails and what should be called the world’s BEST grilled cheese sandwich 🙂 And just like that, it was time to return home (mom duty was calling), but we took away a great experience. It is so important to give yourself that much needed break and re-charge! Only a 20min drive away from our homes, it still felt like a great escape! If you are looking for a fun boutique hotel in the city that works for any budget, check out the Burrard. The location, decor, amenities and service make this an ideal spot for a staycation in the city. Instead of paying for a cab to and from the city for a night out, enjoy your leisure time a little bit longer and book a room here instead! 😉 Also, make sure to follow along on Instagram, because there is an amazing giveaway happening this Friday!!!
