Palm Springs: Recap + Recommendations

Palm Springs: Recap + Recommendations

#palm springs is better - Arrive Hotel
Arrive Hotel Palm Springs

Palm Springs has become like a second home for us when it comes to vacationing. A quick 2.5 hour flight from YVR-PSP is manageable for anyone with kids. It is close enough that you can even go just for the weekend, or if you are lucky enough, extend that to a couple of weeks vacation. We tend to go at least once a year, if not a couple of times.

This past trip was even more laid back than usual, but we did manage to go to a few places that we had never been before. As we stay in La Quinta and that is more of a quiet, suburban area, most of our time is spent lounging; swimming in the pool, going for golf cart rides (yes that’s a thing there), playing golf (father and son activity) and going out for the occasional meal (usually at Adobe Grill at the La Quinta Hotel, which is the BEST MEXICAN FOOD EVER. You MUST GO!!!!!). We also drive to El Paseo on each trip, mostly for two reasons: The killer fish tacos at Tommy Bahamas Restaurant,ย and my favourite clothing store in Palm Springs, Elizabeth and Prince. They carry the most beautifully curated collection of womenswear and accessories; I have found some of my most coveted pieces from there.

(I am saving up for a new DSLR, so all photos taken on this trip were with my new IPhone 7 Plus, which has an AMAZING camera. I definitely used the portrait mode as much as possible!)

As much as we try to lounge, Scott and I are both natural busy bodies. We are always on the hunt for a new adventure while we are there. This time we had a chance to drive into Palm Springs (about a one hour drive from La Quinta) and check out some of the amazing boutique hotels. Our first stop was the Ace Hotel, where we quickly discovered that is where every other young person in the Desert hangs out. lol. Now we know ๐Ÿ˜‰ A definite change of atmosphere! We had a special lunch date with Kingston at King’s Highway in the Ace, and wondered around the hotel before venturing over to the Arrive Hotel to check out their IG famous ice cream + shoppe. There is no shortage of cool places to stay in this area, which is something we hope to do one day soon! The Arrive Hotel is also a very cool hotel to check out, and also relatively new. They have a great pool, an amazing bar, coffee shop and as mentioned, ice cream shop. Kingston and I even managed to sneak in a quick game of Ping Pong (or rather, Ping My Pong ;-)) If you are heading to Palm Springs, I would highly recommend trying to stay in this area, or at least spend a day exploring the hotels, shops and restaurants.

If you are traveling with kids, there are a couple of spots worth visiting. On this trip we took the kids to the Children’s Discovery Museum. There are lots of hands on activities for the kids to explore, and for a cooler or rainy day, it’s the perfect place to keep them entertained. There is also the Living Desert, which is a fun place to see desert animals. You can see more details on the Living Desert here.

As mentioned before, I LOVE adventure. Doing something that is exciting and completely out of the norm (especially while on vacation). My father in law has his pilot’s license, and offered to take me flying over the Borrego Valley (very close to wear we stay in La Quinta). I have no fear when it comes to flying, so I quickly jumped on that opportunity! It was the perfect weather for it too. The kids were happy to hang out with their dad in the pool while Mommy went flying ๐Ÿ˜‰

And then just like that, the week long stay was over! We can’t wait to go back again at Spring Break. If you have plans to visit Palm Springs, and would like further recommendations on places to visit, please email me. I am happy to share some ideas!
