The days fly by and our focus is always on our kids, and our family. Our needs/wants always take a backseat and rarely do we set aside time to ourselves. Priorities change, and with so many things on our to-do list, escaping for that much needed “me” time falls continuously to the bottom of the list. Blush Nighties : Smash + Tess / Photography: Marcy Media I recently had one of these rare moments of personal time during a one-night stay at the Loden Hotel in Vancouver with three friends. We left the husbands in charge and had one full night of dining, sleeping and endless laughter. Although the mom guilt never really leaves, it still felt so good to take that time to ourselves, and share a very special experience together. From the moment I pulled up and was greeted by the friendly hotel staff, I knew I was in good hands. Their customer service and attention to detail (such as offering hypo-allergenic and pet-friendly rooms) did not disappoint. The girls and I settled in to our rooms, taking in each blissful moment of peace and quiet. I love traveling as a family, but there is something to be said about walking into a hotel room, dropping your bags, and taking in the gorgeous city views without having to immediately tend to a child (or husband.. ha!). After taking our time settling in and getting ready for dinner, we headed downstairs to Tableau, a french bistro located beside the lobby of the hotel. I have had the pleasure of dining at Tableau twice before, and both experiences left me wanting more! It was especially nice this time to be a guest of the hotel, and have access to such a great restaurant only steps away from our room. We began with celebratory cocktails, easing into the night and enjoying good conversation. After chatting away for over an hour, we ordered a handful of plates to share, including the mouth watering brussel sprouts and impossible to resist poutine. We ate, we drank, we laughed, all while taking in the stunning decor around us. Four hours later, with satisfied palettes, we were the last table to leave the restaurant. Now it was time to return to our rooms for a restful night of sleep. We all had a chance to catch up on some sleep and meet in the morning, where we were greeted once again by the friendly hotel staff with room service. The chicken and waffles was the first item to catch my senses (well, second to coffee of course) and needless to say, we INDULGED. To have not only one, but TWO meals consecutively that were not only prepared for us, but also served. It was heavenly to say the least! It was time to get dressed for the day (which we procrastinated on doing as long as possible) and head back to our families. A pleasant ending to our experience was knowing that this was a staycation in our own city, so we would be reunited with our little ones in no time. I highly recommend The Loden Hotel as it has everything to offer. The hotel is situated in the heart of downtown, and is in close proximity to restaurants, shopping (Robson Street is only a couple of blocks away), The Vancouver Art Gallery, Stanley Park and the Seawall (just to name a few). If you would prefer not to walk, the hotel offers a complimentary drop-off service in one of their London style cabs. Are you a Mom who would LOVE a night to yourself?!
