How to Prepare Your Closet for Spring

It is that time of year again to prepare your closet for Spring! The clocks are forward, the weather is improving, and we FINALLY no longer need our winter clothes!! Here are a few simple tips to transition your closet from Winter to Spring.

Before shopping for spring clothes, take the time to go through your closet and see what you already have. This is also the perfect opportunity to clean out your closet, and prepare for the next season. Let’s make the most out of what you have, shall we?!

How to Prepare Your Closet for Spring

  • Buy a storage container for your winter items. Remove the bulky sweaters and other items that are only worn in winter from your closet. Store them in a container to open up space, so that you can easily see what you have. I personally love the flat roll-away containers that can be stored under your bed, or in your closet. You can find some options for storage here.
  • Sort through your closet by section. To not overwhelm yourself, take each section one by one, and sort through the clothes. If you look at something and are no longer excited by it, you probably won’t wear it ;-). Make separate piles – keep, donate, sell/consign/try on. Sort through and examine the condition & fit of each item to see if it will still work for you.
  • Organize your closet by category.  Once you have gone through your items, place them back in your closet and into categories. This is a much easier way to determine what styles you have multiples of, and where the gaps are (as opposed to organizing by colour).
  • Make a wish list. Go through each category to see what is missing, what needs to be replaced, etc. Make your list from there. This will result in more efficient shopping! (and avoiding duplicates ;-))
  • Try the hanger trick. Start by facing all of your hangers in the same direction. Each time you wear something, rotate the hanger to the opposite direction. This will give you a good idea of what you have worn, and what you haven’t by the end of the season.

I hope you find these tips useful when you clean out your closet this season! What tips/tricks do you use?? I would love to hear about them in the comment section below! xo

I love the idea of taking out the bulky winter items to remove that distraction, and genius idea about the under the bed storage bins! Spring is my favorite fashion season!
