Free to Be Brunch

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the Raw Beauty Talks Orchard Brunch in Chilliwack, BC in support of the Free to Be Media Literacy and Positive Body Image Program. It was a gorgeous sunny Sunday afternoon spent in great company, and for an amazing cause. Learn more about this program for youth, and how to get involved here.

Thankfully the event was undercover in the Orchard as the heat was intense that day! I picked up this beautiful dress at Bella & Wren in Fort Langley just for the occasion. Admittedly it was amongst the pile of ten other dresses in the fitting room, because well, I want EVERYTHING in that store. They make it hard to choose just one!

I fell in love with the details of this dress as it is neutral, but far from boring. The shoulder detail and aztec print make it a fun, and cool (quite literally) summer piece to wear. Knowing how I love to extend the wear out of my clothes, I will certainly be trading my flatforms for booties and carrying this dress into fall..

I decided to add more shape to this dress for the event by adding a thin belt. This brave leather belt with metal detail has a french girl vibe to it, and I couldn’t resist pairing it with this print.

The great news about this “off the shoulder with straps” trend is that it is sticking around for another season (which is partially why I chose it, as I don’t like to invest in overly trendy pieces). I foresee this dress coming along on many future vacations with me!
