Both myself and the store’s owner Nicole have the same beliefs when it comes to choosing items that are versatile, that will stand against time. Any chance I get to visit the store I do, as I know their aesthetic and selection of clothing is EXACTLY what I am looking for. In fact Nicole and I had a good laugh that evening as we stood there both wearing black, denim and accessorized with studded booties (we clearly share a love for neutrals, and fun shoes ;-)). Nicole’s eye for style, love for quality fashion and genuine customer service have kept her in business for over eight years, and she is still going strong. Lynn Steven is an independent boutique with a loyal customer base; women value both the quality of clothing in the store, and the experience that comes with shopping there. So, the topic of the evening – how to build a spring wardrobe with seven pieces. It can feel overwhelming when a new season begins, and so many new trends are coming into play. What do you spend your money on to ensure you will feel content with your wardrobe?? Start with neutrals and basics. They are an easy way to create multiple outfits as they pair easily together and you are not limited when it comes to colour combinations. Here are our top seven items to include… Basic linen t-shirt – a white linen t-shirt is comfortable, has texture and will wash well. Button down shirt – a chambray shirt can be worn with any bottom, even denim. The colour looks good on everyone and its the perfect piece to create a casual, chic look. Open sweater for layering – Having an open cardigan style gives you more outfit options. A nice shade of white is perfect for Spring. Black dress – If there is one dress to have for any season, it is black. Choosing a fabric that can be worn from day to night will serve you very well. You can accessorize the dress to alter the look. Blue denim – A great fitting pair of blue jeans. The must-have for any season. Pair them with casual or dressy tops and shoes for several versatile looks. Black denim – The perfect alternative to blue denim when you need to elevate your casual look. Blouse – A dressier style top can serve so many purposes. From the office, to dinner, to special occasions. Choosing a neutral tone allows you to incorporate colour, textures or pattern through accessorizing. Every top goes with every bottom, and the sweater can be worn with all six other items. The outfit combinations are endless! Tip #1 – Look for versatile items that can transition from day to night, and through different seasons. This will help you get the most wear out of your clothes. Tip #2 – Base it on your lifestyle. If you are going to have fewer items, they need to suit your everyday life. Tip #3 – Choose colours and patterns that work together. Tip #4 – Follow your personal style. Look at the pieces you wear the most often and why you love them. Use those items to begin building your Capsule Wardrobe. Tip #5 – Pick versatile shoes that go with your wardrobe, and suit your everyday needs. We included a casual sneaker, a sandal, and a black bootie from Rowan Sky. Want to shop these pieces? You can find them in store and online. A big thank you to Lynn Steven for teaming up with me on this post, and Marcy Media for the gorgeous photos from the event!
